What contribution can an architect make to reshape the societal approach to public education accessibility?
After selecting this personal subject, I studied the history of education and the transformation of its physical architectural form. My aim was to present an architect's vision as an integral part of a collaborative effort in modernizing the education system.
I see open schooling as the direction of public education, dismantling the former isolation and knowledge monopoly of educational institutions. It represents an invitation of a larger range of the population into the public space that schools can easily become.

As a case study I deliberately chose a rationally and maximally efficiently built neighbourhood from the era of Czechoslovak socialism in the 1960s. This urban unit perfectly shows the attempt of architecture adaptation to turbulent changes in society and lifestyle of last two to three generations living here. Presenting an intriguing challenge of revitalisation for architects..
The novel education typologies extend the facets of the "school" across the entire neighborhood, and allow a wide use for project-based learning. At the same time, they remain open for use by local residents on a rental basis. The facilities encompass playrooms, study spaces, sports amenities, dining areas, kitchens, an amphitheater, media centers, gardens, and even greenhouses.
